Ukrainian Museum

Culture and faith: preserved and promoted

For the past 70 years, our Ukrainian museum in Edmonton has been dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich cultural and religious heritage of Ukrainian Canadians. Our journey began under the guidance of Bishop Nil Savaryn, whose vision was to create a space where future generations could connect with their roots. Over the decades, we have carefully curated an extensive collection of artifacts, including traditional embroidered textiles, religious icons, historical photographs, and handcrafted items that tell the story of Ukrainian settlement in Canada. Many of these treasures have been generously donated from personal collections across Alberta, reflecting the deep ties between our community and its history.

Currently, our Ukrainian museum is housed within the historic St. Josaphat’s Cathedral in downtown Edmonton. This location has provided a meaningful setting for our exhibits, allowing visitors to explore not only artifacts but also the breathtaking beauty of a cathedral that has been a spiritual and cultural hub for Ukrainian Catholics in Canada. However, as our collection continues to grow, we recognize the need for a larger, permanent home where we can properly display and protect these invaluable pieces of history.

We are actively working towards securing a new space that will allow us to expand our exhibits, host educational programs, and offer a more immersive experience for visitors who wish to learn about Ukrainian heritage. Whether you are a long-time supporter or a first-time guest, we invite you to visit our Ukrainian museum in Edmonton and discover the stories, artistry, and faith that have shaped our community. Stay connected with us as we embark on this exciting journey toward a new chapter in our museum’s history.
